This notice explains what personal data MarineConnect collects when you use the FishMap website and the FishMap apps, how we use it and the choices you have. It sits alongside section 8 of the FishMap Terms of Use.

Who we are

FishMap is provided by MarineConnect ("we", "us"). MarineConnect is responsible for the personal data described in this notice. You can reach us through the contact page or at marineconnect.sg.

What we collect

Account details: your name, email address and password, and what you choose to add to your profile, such as your phone number, vessel name, vessel registration number, home port and language.
Sign-in logs and devices: when you sign in, from which IP address and device, and the computers signed in to your account (device name, operating system and last use). We use them to keep your account secure and to apply your plan's device limit.
Usage needed to run the service: your plan and its dates, your fish balance and the fish each AI answer used, your live-weather time, the map data your app requests, and the fishing zones you save to your account.
Payment records: what you bought, the amount, the payment method, the order code and its status. Card details are entered in the payment processor's secure form and handled by that processor: FishMap does not see or store your card number. Bank transfers are matched to your order.
Messages to us: what you send through the contact form (name, email, phone or messaging number, vessel or company, topic and message, and the language and page you wrote from) or to our support team.

Data that stays on your computer

The desktop app keeps these on your computer:

AIS data from your own receiver and your vessel tracks;
your fishing-spot book;
the chat history shown in the app;
sea data you download for a trip.

Questions to the AI Captain

When you ask the AI Captain, your question and the context it needs, such as a point you picked, a fishing zone or your vessel's position, go through FishMap's server to an AI provider, which generates the answer. FishMap's server may also keep a copy of your conversations with your account for a limited time, to run and support the service and to check fish charges. Please do not put anything in a question that you do not want to share.

Location

FishMap uses your computer's location only when you allow it on your device, and you can turn this off in your device settings at any time. AIS positions are processed on your computer. The app sends a position to FishMap's server only when a feature needs it, for example when you ask the AI Captain about your vessel or download sea data around your boat.

Cookies on the website

The website uses a cookie that remembers your language, and the essential cookies needed to sign in to your account and keep it secure. We do not use advertising cookies or trackers.

How we use your data

to create and run your account and provide FishMap's features;
to apply your plan, fish and weather time, and to process payments;
to keep FishMap and your account secure and prevent misuse;
to answer your messages and support requests;
to send messages about your account, such as verification codes and password resets;
to meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who we share it with

We share personal data only:

with the infrastructure, payment and data providers we need to run FishMap, including the AI provider that generates the AI Captain's answers, and only for the service each one provides to us. Some map data, such as live weather layers, is loaded by the app directly from the data provider, which then receives the technical details of that request, such as your IP address and the map area;
when the law requires it.

Some of these providers may process data outside your country.

How long we keep it

We keep your account details while your account is open. After it is closed, we delete or anonymise them within a reasonable time, except records we must keep by law, such as payment records. Sign-in logs, usage records and AI conversations are kept for a limited time and then deleted. Messages you send us are kept as long as we need them to help you.

Your rights

You can ask to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it, and you can withdraw any consent you have given. You can update your profile yourself in the app's account centre. For anything else, contact MarineConnect through the contact page or marineconnect.sg. We may ask you to confirm your identity first. Once your account is deleted, you can no longer use FishMap with it.

Security

We protect your data with access controls and encrypted connections. No system is completely secure, so keep your password to yourself and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice when FishMap or the law changes. We will publish the new version on this page with its effective date, and let you know in the app or by email if the changes are significant.
